About the Energy Industry
The electricity industry is under rapid change with the advent of competitive renewable energy supply and the technological advancement of distributed energy resources. The Michigan Public Power Agency (MPPA) operates within this exciting industry and is offering a paid internship in the summer of 2022.

About MPPA
MPPA is a Municipal Joint Action Agency created in 1978 with the mission of helping its Members realize the benefits of pooling resources to effectively & efficiently plan, develop, acquire and manage energy supply and related services. MPPA presently consists of 22 Michigan municipal electric utility Members that own and operate both traditional and renewable power generation, distribution, and transmission resources. 

About the Internship
The selected Energy Market Operations Intern will team up with experienced leaders in power supply & market operations to work on various aspects of the industry. Duties will include but are not limited to:

·        Assist staff in a variety of electrical market interfaces as it relates to MPPA and its members
·        Assist with natural gas nomination, scheduling, and metering rules, and procedures improvements
·        Perform data analytics in support of staff initiatives
·        Verify data integrity between MPPA and its Members
·        Verify daily information representing generation and load in wholesale power markets
·        Opportunity to learn power markets and municipal utility structure of how power is delivered and procured for MPPA Members

·        Have at least 45 hours of college credit toward a degree in operational technology, engineering, economics, or business with a GPA of 3.0 or better
·        An enthusiastic self-starter with interest in the energy markets or industry
·        Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. SQL database knowledge is a plus but not required
·        Must have excellent oral, written, and interactive communication skills
·        Ability to convey a positive and professional image

MPPA offers a professional work environment. Our Lansing office has just over 20 employees, so you will be able to work with and get to know all areas of the organization. MPPA Members are in great locations across the State of Michigan so traveling for site visits will be fun and interesting. The selected applicant will be expected to work 30 to 40 hours a week but can be flexible with needed time off during the internship.
